Andriano/Andrian, a beautiful village situated along the Wine Road, is only 13 km from Bolzano/Bozen and 20 km from Merano/Meran. Its ideal location opens up numerous possibilities for trips into the surrounding area:
- Castle Tirol in Dorf Tirol is a place you should not miss!! Children and adults alike are offered an insight into the local history! Just beside it, there is a bird sanctuary.
- In the surrounding area, there are numerous wine-growing estates, which can be visited and where you can enjoy some wine tasting! The Andriano/Andrian & Terlano/Terlan wine cellars are the oldest wine-growing estates in South Tyrol. In Meltina/Mölten, you can find the highest location for a sparkling wine manufacturer in Europe – Arunda.
- Want to be a castle owner’s wife or a knight for once in your life? Visit Castle Maultasch.
- Are you keen on a trip to the market? Mondays in Terlano/Terlan! There are larger markets on a Friday (in Merano/Meran) and Saturday (in Bolzano/Bozen).
- Appiano/Eppan offers two very special natural spectacles: when everywhere else there is still snow on the ground, the Spring Valley offers you blooming crocuses, daffodils and lilies of the valley. If you want to be cold all year round, you need to visit the ice holes. They offer a constant 4 °C – which is particularly refreshing during the summer. It is also worth seeing the fortress triangle of Appiano/Eppan-Boymont-Korb, the large and the small Montiggl Lakes and the MMM – Messner Mountain Museum.
- Caldaro/Kaltern on the wine road entices you with the warmest bathing lake in the Alpine region, a number of wine-growing estates and the wine museum. With the steepest funicular cable-car in Europe, you can enjoy a ride from Caldaro/Kaltern to the Mendola/Mendel mountain.
- From Bolzano/Bozen, you can use the cable railway to the Renon/Ritten mountain. Once there, it’s worth seeing the earth pyramids, the Ritten Horn and the bee museum.
- The Sarn Valley is a real treat!! Visit the trout culture and Durnholz Lake.
- Just above Verano/Vöran, you can find the Knottnkino (natural cinema). This is where nature is the main actor! Enjoy the fantastic, breath-taking views.
- In Tesimo/Tisens, you will find probably the oldest vine in the world (about 350 years old). Along the Felt Art Hiking Path, 24 artists from 7 European countries have created works of art made of local sheep’s wool.
- Near Lana, you can take a turn into the Ultimo/Ulten Valley. There, you will come across 3,000 year old larch trees, a valley museum and the ‘Hausl am Stoan’. If you are interested in herbs and the like, Traudi Schwienbacher will give you some insight at the Wegleithof farmhouse.
- In the Merano/Meranerland, we avail of the so-called irrigation channels, which invite you to walk along a set of stream-like channels.
- Andreas Hofer is the best-known hero of the Passeier Valley. Walk in his footsteps in the Museum Passiria/Passeier. You can experience something special at the Mooseum – the museum with character: The bunker from World War II exhibits some pieces found in the Texel Group Nature Park, informs you about settlements and the history of this region, as well as offering a real bunker experience. The open-air part of the museum presents you with an ibex area and a climbing wall. After walking along the rock wall, you come to the exhibition area in the historic Schneeberg mine.
- Bletterbach canyon: ‘Down into the canyon to find pure enjoyment‘. This is the motto of the Bletterbach canyon! The canyon offers an insight into the history of stones, which are more than 280 million years old. The forest teaching trail explains nature in a wonderful way and the geological path takes you on a journey through time, from Antiquity to the Middle Ages.
- The Alpe di Siusi/Seiseralm is the largest connected high-Alpine area in Europe. Apart from a great view of the Sciliar/Schlern mountain and other mountain peaks, there are numerous hiking trails waiting to be discovered. For a number of years, the entire area has enjoyed ‘reduced-traffic‘ and therefore is an ideal place for hikers, mountaineers, cyclists and ramblers!
